"I Heckin' Love Science And Truth!"

science! wooo!

I think I’m having a psychotic break as I write this.

The only people who should ever be famous are schizoids. Not just because they are the only people who are truly creative, but because they are immune to the abhorrent cruelty of fame.

The entertainment industry is full of narcissistic men and borderline women. This is because passion, intensity, or dare I say affect, is incredibly important to these types of jobs. If you can make someone feel something, you have won, and today’s world is all about feeling.

Narcissists and those with BPD make up something like 2~ of the population each. Yet every guy I talk to claims that every single one of his exes had BPD and every girl I talk to claims that all of her exes have been narcissists. That seems like an absurd statistical anomaly. For one person this might be possible, not just statistically, but because NPD and BPD people draw or are drawn to certain types of personalities, but not for the entire population of men and women to legitimately both claim victimisation.

Immortality:

10 minutes of fame. Historically, this has been relatively true; most people fall into fame and most people fall right out of it. We are very good at forgetting things.

The internet does not forget.

Remember that time you drank too much and threw up at a party? The time you said a slur? Hit on someone and it didn’t work out?

Paparazzi aren’t gone, they’re more alive than ever – the population is now able to more than ever to not only get their 10 minutes of fame but to rip it out of the hands of someone else. There’s probably a nude you sent to someone saved on their computer from 10 years ago, and they’ll remember it when you’re famous. “Yeah, what a slut, look at what they sent me.”

There’s no such thing as good publicity in the current age. You cannot damage control for the infinite possibilities of fuckups someone witnessed and recorded, let alone the things people are capable of manufacturing. This is why schizoids are the only ones who should be famous, because the only alternatives are hypothetical angels of purity who have never committed any wrongdoing throughout their entire lives, or people who don’t really care what others think of them. You’re probably wondering why I don’t put autists in here, and that’s because I believe even the most well adapted low-mid level autist has not only probably done something very embarrassing, but has been embarrassed enough that they would wish to exert power if they had it, to prove something. I won’t be silly and bring up psychopaths.

The point of this is, anyone can rip you down. The world has become obsessed with it, especially online, and online is where it is most effective. Every action catalogued, scraped, leaked. You really should have listened when you were told the internet is forever. There are no takebacks. The Information Age, as in everyone knows everything that isn’t useful.

Look at Wikipedia. I was a very studious child, and I spent most of my spare time reading sciences in the school library during my early years. Obviously it was not particularly complex, but I quickly ran out of books and reread things repeatedly. I quite literally read the dictionary multiple times. My father, when I asked him about a topic, I think relating to black holes because I was incredibly fascinated by them, showed me Wikipedia. I spent the entire evening until bedtime reading, clicking on more links, reading. It was unlimited knowledge. I could learn about anything. Not just that, I could learn all of what was useful that we knew about anything.

Now look at it. A puppet for NGOs, all the while begging for donations that don’t go to actually running the website*. Open source information failed, because we stopped caring about science, we stopped caring about truth.

*Note that once this became widely known they stopped using the word donation.

If someone introduces themselves as someone who is passionate about science these days I find it hard not to physically recoil. No, you don’t love science. You don’t care about the truth. You care about the moral superiority that comes from supposedly being enlightened by your own intelligence, which in itself is a costume. That is narcissism . “I read all these things that agree with me, and I don’t care about how the information was organised, gathered, or analysed, or who by.”

I have a friend, Meridoc, who told me she is always paying attention to semantics. I don’t blame her, I too love semantics, but I just can’t tolerate paying attention to them anymore. There wasn’t a study or idea I couldn’t pick apart or find fault with, even when it came to things I did agree with. It ruined my faith in the idea of truth. People who love science realise that it isn’t being done anymore and are grieving, and are rightfully disgusted by the popularisation and moralisation that is dancing on its corpse.

“Study finds” – nope, stopping you there, it’s nothing meaningful, it’s gossip at a dinner table. If you ever want to lose faith in science, just look at what “evidence based” has come to mean and realise that you are taking medications that only really work for 15% of people. There is a great article by Jonathan Shedler, who is a psychologist, quite possibly one of the most articulate and critical of our time, which I am going to link here.

It isn’t just that the ‘conversations’ around the headline are meaningless, or that the headlines are meaningless, it’s that the science has become meaningless. It is warped and raped into whatever the conductor desires. Science has become increasingly focused on headlines which have always been entertainment. Because there’s no money in good science and never will be. It’s popularised, and I mean that in the fashionable way, like politics. Nobody has real views anymore, because it doesn’t matter who you voted for, because your interests wouldn’t be acted upon. The hierarchies are too large and the interests are ignored, so voting is basically fashion. You’re either wearing cool clothes or you’re not. It’s just a performance, even outside of America.

Regurgitating the headline is the same as putting on a t-shirt, except you didn’t even bother to check if the t-shirt reads “I’m a fucking retard”. “I saw it on the news, and a lot of people are talking about it, so it must be true.”

Movies are not reality tv and reality tv is not real life, and the news is basically reality TV at this point. Even if you said the truth, and reported the truth, there is going to be a billion people waiting to throw shit at you just so that they can claim to be a person who did so, because that is the only claim to relevance they’ll ever have, and by golly, you gotta get those ten minutes. And then more people say “wow they’re getting a lot of attention for that really easily, I’m going to do the same because I am also incapable of being validated by anything other than others perception of me”.

That’s narcissism. Not really, but as I said, we’ve given up on science, given up on the terms.

And now we have a person who told the truth who is simply not designed for this environment. They can’t handle losing their job, their funding, or their family, because other people are raging a war about whether they’re right or wrong and it doesn’t matter what they actually are, because they don’t get to decide anymore, the public has decided what they are. Open source information failed. Because people thought they liked science from seeing a bicarb and vinegar volcano going off, and not because they wondered what was the actual process. We used it to rip each other down for petty points because the hierarchies have gotten so large that tiny wins like that are the only things that make people feel anything. We have completely pathologised normal flawed behaviour whilst enabling actual pathological behaviour to thrive.

If I smash two rocks into each other to make a spearhead I am not a gunsmith. I am a barbarian. But a solo gunsmith is never going to out-manufacture dudes bashing rocks together to make weapons. You are going to be overwhelmed, it doesn’t matter if you have the right ideas or process, or you’re actually doing science. You are going to be stoned to death, and then the people who killed you are also going to be stoned to death by people trying to protect you, but the war is going to drown out any possibility of verifying if what you’ve found is the truth. And people are starting wars because everyone doesn’t actually have opinions or ideas, they have fashion, they have a projected thesis of what they think is going on and what others think and will write the thesis before doing the research. It’s something highschoolers are taught not to do when learning to write essays.

Don’t even get me started on people who claim to be ‘critical thinkers’. They’re just as bad as the people who identify as loving science. They’re just another soldier in a war that isn’t even about what people think it’s about. It’s theatre. But we’ve theaterised violence to such a point that we can’t even admit that what’s going on is real, to the point that when real violence happens it’s just another fucking sideshow, even when it’s very clearly fucking real. Terrible things are happening and we are pretending we are outraged at other people pretending to be outraged over something no one can even agree is going on. It’s pointless. So fucking pointless.

It’s no wonder when the world has become a giant stage and every conflict a performance that people with personality disorders are just seen as actors, like everyone else.

But they’re not acting.

I can promise you that when you say “The rest is silence” those people will not be wishing for flights of angels to sing you to rest.
